The Mind’s Eye video series

The Minds Eye The Minds Eye back
So what does this have to do with music, much less engaging with music? A lot actually.
The Mind’s Eye video series is computer animation combined with music and a feast for the eyes, ears and mind to watch. Much of it is surreal and the music matches beautifully, which is the point.
The music was done by major artists of the time such as Jan Hammer, Mike Oldfield, Kerry Livgren of Kansas and Thomas Dolby and covers a range of genres such as World, Pop, New Age, Rock, Experimental, Electronica, etc.
I’ve always been fascinated by these type of videos I think partly because of the incredible animation and the combination of it with the music that kind of draws you in. Even some of the music separated from the animation is good enough to stand on its own as well, in my opinion and was or still may be available on CD.

Some of the videos are still available, but very few, as you may find some on Amazon and I’ll provide those links where I can at the end of this article. The one pictured above was only on VHS sadly. I was able to convert my copy to DVD although the video quality suffered a little of course. That said though, you may find most of these full programs on YouTube.
First I’ll give you some samples from each:

Here’s one from the video above:

Here’s a sample from the one that got me interested, “Beyond The Mind’s Eye”. I saw it running in a store one day and wanted to get a copy straight away:

Here’s a sample from the video titled, Odyssey Into The Mind’s Eye:

Here’s a sample from the video titled, “The Gate To The Mind’s Eye”

There are other videos similar to the Mind’s Eye series, such as “Cyberscape and Animusic.
Here’s a couple from Animusic:

I only found one of the Mind’s Eye series still available at Amazon in DVD format:
